Carmen Help

Carmen has an extensive help system with a good search function. If your issue/topic is not addressed below, please use the Carmen Help system.

Accessing Carmen: Sign in to Carmen with your name.# and password just like for your email. If you have not received your name.#, go tohttp://my.osu.edu and click on "forgot username". Enter the required information to obtain your name.#, then carefully follow these instructions to activate your name.#

Seeing your course(s): If you do not see your course listed, contact your Division Chair to be sure you are listed as the official instructor. Carmen is updated nightly, so you should see the course the day after you are entered as official instructor.

Allowing students to see your course(s): You MUST activate your course by checking the box to "enable student access" if you want students to see the course. Follow these instructions to be sure students see it.

Developing your Carmen content: See the "Getting Started" guide in Carmen, especially the 7 Tips. It introduces each feature of Carmen with links to more information.

Grades: There are many detailed functions to manage grades in Carmen. Please see the detailed information about grades specifically. You must officially submit grades at the end of the term to the registrar using these procedures.

Adding someone to your course: You should not be adding students because they are added automatically as per the official registration list. You can add others and select their "role" (guest, instructor, etc.) by following these instructions.

Using the content from last time ("copying course components"): You can easily copy over the content of a previous Carmen course to reuse everything but the classlist (i.e. content, quizzes, grading setup, calendar, etc.) It is easiest to copy overeverything and delete unwanted items. See Copy Course Components: Overview for instructions on how to do this.
