As the parent of a prospective student, you probably have questions! Here are the answers to some that are frequently asked. If you don't find your question answered here, please contact the Office of Admissions.
- Do I have to fill out the FAFSA every year?
- How do I know if the campus is safe?
- What if my son or daughter is experiencing roommate problems?
- Should my student bring a computer to campus?
- How can I put money on my student's BuckID?
- What if my student will not have a vehicle while at Ohio State ATI? Is campus transportation provided?
1. Do I have to fill out the FAFSA every year?
Yes. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required of all families applying for financial assistance. The FAFSA determines eligibility for all state and federal grants. It is very important that the form be turned in on time. Ohio State’s priority deadline is February 1st, and our school code is 003090.
2. How do I know if the campus is safe?
Come visit and get a feel for campus. We are a very close-knit community, and people look out for each other. We also have a fully-equipped university police staff. While we can’t prevent everything, we do our best to provide our students with a safe environment where they can focus on their academics and enjoy their college experience.
3. What if my son or daughter experiences roommate problems?
Learning to live with other people can be a bit of a challenge! That’s why we have Resident Assistants and a Housing Coordinator who live on campus. They will work with students to enforce policies, help mediate conflicts, and provide social and educational programming. If roommate issues cannot be solved, the housing staff will work to relocate one or more of the roommates.
4. Should my student bring a computer to campus?
Although it is not required, many students bring a computer to campus. While there are public computers in the library and in the labs, nothing beats the convenience of having a computer at your disposal day and night. Another incentive to bring a computer is our high-speed data network, which is available at no charge via a wired or wireless connection in every room. For those students who bring laptops, wireless access is available across campus.
5. How can I put money on my student’s BuckID?
You can deposit funds to a BuckID account with a credit or debit card by clicking "Make a Deposit" on the BuckID home page. This money can be used in the university bookstore, Café Carmen, vending and laundry facilities, as well as several local restaurants and businesses.
Ohio State ATI does not have university transportation for students. We are a small enough campus that the convenience of walking to and from the Applewood Village Apartments to our classroom buildings is only a five minute walk. However, our farm and golf course require a driving commute, if the student's major involves those facilities. Typically, students can carpool with their classmates if they do not have a means of transportation.
The Wooster Bus Transit does routinely stop at Fisher Auditorium on the Wooster campus for students who would like to go to other stores, restaurants, and shops in Wooster. The days, times, and route locations are posted on campus for students who take advantage of this system. This is free to students by showing their BuckID.
Students are also allowed to have a vehicle on campus, even as a freshman, at no cost! We do not even issue parking permits.
