The purpose of this English placement test is to help us determine which of the three English courses at Ohio State ATI is the best fit for your abilities.
These courses are:
- English 1110.01, a 3-credit first year writing course.
- English 1110.03, a 3-credit first year writing course with the co-requisite one-credit course English 1193 which provides additional tutorial support.
- English 1109, a 4-credit introductory reading and writing course, for students who need to build a stronger foundation in academic reading and writing before attempting English 1110. English 1109 does not earn credits toward a degree.
This test is completed entirely online and should be submitted at least 10 days before your orientation date, so that it can be evaluated by English area faculty. They will send the score to your advisor to prepare your schedule before you arrive for orientation.
You have 100 minutes to take the test which consists of reading two passages and then writing an essay in response to a prompt.
- Once you click on the test, your 100 minutes begin. You cannot take breaks or come back to the test later.
