AFTER YOU APPLY FOR ADMISSION

Here are the steps to take after you've applied for admission:

Activate your username and password

  • Within 1 to 5 days of applying, you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application. This email will include your OSU ID and Ohio State username (lastname.#).
  • Follow the instructions in the email to set up your Ohio State username (lastname.#). This will give you access to your Applicant Center (http://appstatus.osu.edu) where you can check on the status of your application.
    • Activating your Ohio State username is a two-part process:
    1. Request an activation code: Go to my.osu.edu (http://my.osu.edu)  and click "Activate Now!" Then click "I need an Activation Code" and follow the prompts to have your activation code emailed to you. (You'll need your Ohio State username, which is located at the top of the email you received immediately after you applied for admission.)
    2. Activate your identity: Once you receive your activation code, return to my.osu.edu (http://my.osu.edu) and click "Activate Now!"  Then click "I have an Activation Code" and follow the prompts.
  • Need help? Contact Ohio State's IT help desk at (614) 688-HELP (4357). (They're available 24/7!)
  • Use your OSU ID in correspondence with us about your application.
  • Within 15 minutes of activating your username, you can log in to the Applicant Center (http://appstatus.osu.edu) .

Check your application status

  • Log in to your Applicant Center (http://appstatus.osu.edu) where you can monitor the status of your application. Check regularly to make sure you have no missing materials, outstanding issues or anything left to do.
  • On the right side of the screen in your Applicant Center, you’ll see a section called "To Do List." If there are items listed there, click “More” for all available details, including any follow-up comments from Undergraduate Admissions.
  • On the left under "Admissions," you’ll see a link to "Application Status." Click that to view the status of your application.
  • Check for:
    • Items missing from your application: It may take several days for received materials to be reflected on your status page. Please wait at least 5 days after submitting materials before inquiring.
    • Your admission decision: Once your application is complete, your admission decision will typically post within 4 to 6 weeks (if not sooner!).
  • While we will notify you of the admission decision, the decision will also appear in your Applicant Center (http://appstatus.osu.edu) .
