Frequently asked questions

As the parent of a prospective student, you probably have questions! Here are the answers to some that are frequently asked. If you don't find your question answered here, please contact our Office of Admissions.

Question
Do I have to fill out the FAFSA every year?

Answer
Yes. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for any student who wishes to be considered for federal or state financial aid, including grants and certain need-based programs. Completing the FAFSA ensures your student receives full consideration for all forms of aid for which they may be eligible. For detailed instructions, visit the Paying for College Page.

Question
How do I know if the campus is safe?

Answer
Safety is a shared effort, and our campus is supported by a fully staffed Ohio State University Police unit dedicated to the CFAES Wooster Campus. Officers are trained to support students, respond to concerns, and maintain a secure environment where students can focus on learning and enjoying campus life. If students or families need assistance, they can contact the The Ohio State University Police at: 330-287-0111

Question
What if my student experiences roommate problems?

Answer
Sharing a living space is an important part of the college experience, but it can take time to adjust. At Ohio State ATI, students are supported by Resident Assistants (RAs) and the Housing Coordinator, who live on campus and are trained to help students navigate community living.

Question
Should my student bring a computer to campus?

Answer
A personal computer is not required, but it is strongly recommended. While students have access to computers in the library, the Learning Lab and the main computer lab, having their own device provides greater flexibility for coursework, communication and studying.

Question
How do I put money on my student's BuckID

Answer
You can easily add funds to your student's BuckID online using a debit or credit card. Deposits are processed immediately and your student can use the funds right away. Visit the BuckID Deposit options at buckid.osu.edu/manage-your-account/deposit-options.

Question
Does my student need a car on campus?

Answer
No. The campus is small and easy to get around, and many students walk to classes, especially if they live on campus. Students can bring a car if they want — parking is free — but it’s not required. For off-site classes, students often carpool, and local public transportation is available in Wooster. Learn more about the GoBus options at ridegobus.com.
