Agribusiness / Food Business Management

We have two programs that may be of interest to you: Agribusiness and Food Business Management. See the links at the right for the course sequences / curriculum.


Agribusiness students get a comprehensive introduction to business management, marketing, finance, accounting, and business economic principles. The Agribusiness program helps student identify market opportunities, develop a business plan and marketing plans, and connect with successful businesses through networking. Agribusiness majors complete a combination of technical and general courses that allow them to gain hands-on experience while completing 50 percent of the curriculum for a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Students complete general education courses in English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, history, music, rural sociology, economics, and agricultural communications.

Career Prospects

Those who graduate with a major in Agribusiness and Applied Economics are prepared for careers in:

• Management
• Finance
• Marketing and sales
• Resource economics and management
• Public service as a 4-H or Extension Agent

Related Programs

Ohio State ATI also offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management and an Associate of Science, or transfer degree, in Food Business Management. This degree option allows students to begin their course work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Business Management.

Food Business Management

The Food Business Management program is an Associate of Science or transfer degree. The program allows students to complete 50 percent of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in Food Business Management.

The program focuses on economics, marketing, human resources, and business practices related to the food industry. As consumers continue to demand high-quality foods and the government sets more rigid standards for food safety and processing, jobs in food business will continue to grow. Students also take a variety of general courses in English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, history, music, rural sociology, and economics.


Students who transition to the Columbus campus to complete a bachelor's degree will complete a hands-on, practical internship in the food industry.

Career Prospects

Ohio State ATI students who choose to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Business Management are prepared for a variety of careers, from commodity purchasing to food product sales and marketing to plant or franchise management. Numerous food industry employers regularly conduct interviews on the Columbus campus.
