1. Will I be the only older student in my classes?

Ohio State ATI has a number of adult students enrolled in both daytime and evening classes. Although you may find that you are older than most of the other students in your classes, you can also connect with other adult students on campus, many of whom have formed their own support network.

2. Can I just take one course or two, or do I have to attend full-time?

You can take one or two courses, as many or as few as you wish. Ohio State ATI has adult/continuing education students enrolled both part-time and full-time. Some of ATI's continuing education students start part-time, non-degree-seeking and then choose to complete a degree over a period of a few years.

3. Do I have to take my courses for a grade?

You can audit any of ATI's courses, or take them for a grade. If you think you will want to transfer your credits to another college, or apply your credits toward a degree at ATI, it is recommended that you take them for a grade. Tuition/fees are the same whether enrolled for a grade or to audit a course.

4. What are the admissions requirements for continuing education students?

Ohio State ATI has open admission for Ohio residents. If you are an Ohio resident (have resided in Ohio for at least the past twelve consecutive months) and have graduated from an accredited high school or have passed the GED, you are admissible as a continuing education student to Ohio State ATI. If you have attended another college or university in the past three years, a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA) is required.

5. How do I apply for admission and register for classes as an adult student?

You will need to complete the Continuing Education Application form, and submit a one-time $60 application fee to our office. Ohio State ATI’s Business Training & Educational Services (BTES) is the office for continuing education student admissions and enrollment. Just call for more information: 330-287-7511.

6. What are the application deadlines?

We recommend you contact us at least eight weeks prior to the start of a semester.Continuing education students can apply anytime throughout the year. Ohio State is on a semester schedule, so classes begin in mid-August (Autumn Semester), early January (Spring Semester).

7. Will I have to take placement tests?

To assure that students get started on the right track, placement tests are required for anyone wishing to take math or English classes and all new, degree-seeking students. There is a placement testing fee of $25.

8. Will I have an official University transcript?

Yes, you will have an official Ohio State University transcript, which you can request at any time by going to: https://registrar.osu.edu/alumni/index_transcript.asp

9. Can my credits be transferred?

Yes. As a general rule, it is up to the receiving college or university to determine what/how many credits they will accept.

10. How do I find the continuing education office/who do I call?

Ohio State ATI's office of Business Training & Educational Services (BTES) is the contact for continuing education enrollment. You will find BTES in the Shisler Conference Center on the Wooster campus. Our address is BTES, Shisler Conference Center, 1625 Wilson Road, Wooster, OH 44691. Our phone is 330-287-7511 and the fax is 330-287-7593.

11. Is there a tuition payment plan?

Yes, Ohio State has a payment plan called the Tuition Option Payment Plan (TOPP) allows students to divide the cost of tuition and other University expenses (minus financial aid) into three payments per semester. There is a $30 annual enrollment fee for this service. For more details, go to http://ssc.osu.edu/TOPP/ BTES also offers students the option of paying by credit card through our office.

12. What if I have difficulty remembering how to study?

This is a common concern among our adult students returning to school after several years. Most adult students do quite well with their academics. However, we have excellent support services at Ohio State ATI. Student Success Services provides a wealth of learning support programs, including free tutoring and study groups for nearly every class taught here, disability services, personal and career counseling, intensive supplemental instruction, academic advising and mentoring.

13. Will I need a parking pass?

No parking pass or permit is required. There is ample free parking on campus at ATI.

14. Are there any programs for people over the age of 60?

Yes. The University offers "Program 60" which grants people who are 60 or older the opportunity to participate in classes free of charge, provided there is space available and instructor permission. A number of folks in the local community take advantage of Program 60 at ATI.

15. Can I enroll in a distance education course if I qualify for Program 60?

Yes, you must fill out a registration form and return this form to Ohio State ATI's Business Training and Educational Services (BTES) office.

16. Will Program 60 people receive an email account?

Active Program 60 participants can receive a guest e-mail account. Guest e-mail accounts will only be active for semesters in which you are registered. Program 60 students who have registered for a course are able to activate their e-mail accounts (See 19.) and access Carmen.

17. Will Program 60 and continuing education students get an Ohio State identification card?

In order to access any materials in the library you will need to get your BuckID, or Ohio State Identification Card. You will need to schedule an appointment to have your BuckID made. A photo ID and the course name and number you are enrolled for will need to be presented to SSS for clarification purposes.

18. Will Program 60 people receive college credit for the classes attended?

Credit cannot be given for attendance through Program 60. Program 60 students sit in on regular university classes on a non-credit basis. Some people think Program 60 students “audit” classes. This is not so. A true audit is given to regular students who pay fees and receive instructor or advisor approval to audit a course. Program 60 attendance does not appear on transcripts.

19. How much does it cost to participate in Program 60?

Although Program 60 is free to those eligible, there may be costs for books and lab fees for which Program 60 participants are responsible.

20. How do I get a schedule of courses or more information about enrolling as an adult/continuing education student?

You can find the schedule of courses on this website at go.osu.edu/creditcourses. Or just contact us, by phone at 330-287-7511.
